ADMISSIONS INFORMATION
SHINE partners with parents in their homeschooling journey. However we are not a school, therefore families must comply with the Tennessee Homeschooling law regarding umbrella school registration. (TCA-49.6) Additionally as we are not a school, nor are we an umbrella school, we do not offer official transcripts or proof of enrollment to meet truancy laws, or special programs for those with special academic or behavioral needs. Incoming students must be in good standing in the areas of academics, discipline and attendance and must be registered with an umbrella school in the state of TN. We do not accept students who have been suspended or expelled from prior academic institutions. * All new families must have homeschooled for a year prior to attending SHINE. Remote learning through the public school system does not meet this standard. Students must have been actually registered as homeschoolers. Parents and student(s) may be asked for an interview process with the SHINE team and provide academic or pastoral references. After that time a decision will be made as to whether or not the student has been admitted for enrollment. Preference may be given to those families with recommendations from current SHINE families). 2025-26 Fees (Per Student): Due at Registration Registration Fee: $135 per child (nonrefundable) Due before Back to School Night Standard Class Fees (tuition): $60 per class per month (9 months total) $540 total per class per year (This pertains to all classes except World History/Geo.) World History/Geo (is a longer class covering two full credits): $75 class per month (9 months total) $675 per year total These high school science classes have once yearly lab supply fees: Anatomy & Physiology, Chem, Biology, Physics $60 each Art Supply Fees: $20 per class per year * Some classes require once yearly copy fees. See class descriptions. • One parent per family is expected to volunteer once a year for a full day. There is a fee for those not volunteering. ($75 per family) • Additionally there is a once yearly maintenance fee to cover the cost of our regular helpers, logistics, building expenses etc. ($100 per family) What you can expect in total: $135 Registration fee per student (Once yearly) $100 Maintenance fee (Once yearly per family) $75 Volunteer fee (Shredded after serving once) $ Course Fees (Paid monthly by dated checks, annually or by semester) $ Lab fees for each high school science course ($60 Paid Once) $ Copy fees (For select classes, $25 paid once) Back to School Night - Mandatory and is ONLY for registered families. August 5th. Registered families MUST attend BTSN. • Classes meet in person one day a week and the rest of the week students will access their course work and communicate with their instructors via Schoology, our online platform. • High school level lab based science classes will have additional off site labs with the schedule and location to be shared through the syllabus to registered students. • All students, regardless of grade level, MUST have internet access and their own email account. • Students are allowed to register for one class or five classes. |
General: It is important to note that SHINE models a Biblical college prep environment. If your student attends, you will both be signing a contract stating your commitment to support excellent Christian behavior, both personally and academically. You will also be signing a statement of faith that all behavior submits to Biblical authority.
All class descriptions include in parenthesis grade levels. Our registrar can amend that as needed with instructor permission. Registration for the 2025-26 school year will open for existing families February 4th. Registration for new families will open on February 18th. Registration closes midnight on August 1st! Thank you for your interest. All families must submit forms. New forms for the 2025-26 school year will be posted soon. Once those have been completed by both parents and student(s) you will need to email slongacreshine@yahoo.com to provide a homeschooling history. Please ensure that your student signs their own forms. They are responsible for the behavior expectations laid out in the handbook. You may be asked for references, pastoral and personal, and a family interview with our SHINE team. After that you will receive further instructions on how to proceed.
